Obesity is a global public health problem. According to Phil. Assoc. for the Study of Overweight and Obesity, the World Health Organization (WHO) has predicted that there will be 2.3 billion overweight adults worldwide by 2015 and more than 700 million of them will be obese. Furthermore, WHO warns that the greater future burden of obesity and diabetes will affect developing countries including the Philippines and the projected number of cases of diabetes run into hundreds of millions within the two decades.
In 1998, using the non-adjusted BMI guidelines for Asians, the WHO Global Database on BMI reports overweight and obesity in the Philippines at 23.5%, with the female adults having higher obesity prevalance rates than male adults. In 2003, the Philippines National Nutritional Health Evaluation and Survey showed that there are 19.6% overweight and 4.9% obese Filipinos.
Garcinia
While obese people find it hard to locate weight and there are some concerns on the side effects of synthetic medications, traditional herbal medicines may have some potential in managing obesity. Botanical dietary supplements often contain complex mixtures of phytochemicals that are safe and effective. Hydroxy citric acid (HCA) is the principal constituent of the dried fruit rind of Garcinia atroviridis, which is indigenous plant of Southeast Asia. The dried rind has been used for centuries worldwide as a food preservative, flavoring agent and carminative.
In a human study, Gano atroviridis was found to be safe and effective in lowering body weight on the short term treatment among obese women.
Gano Garcinia contains a natural substance called Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA), derived from tropical fruit Garcinia Atroviridis and Tamarindus Indica. With the combination of Ganoderma Lucidum, it creates a unique food supplement specially formulated to enhance body weight control.
